If you have been using twitter for a long time now, chances are you’re following a relatively large number of users (hundred or even thousands), at which stage you probably can’t keep up with their updates, regardless of which client you’re using and how you’re using it. At least that’s what happened to me.
Unfollow everyone is a move started originally by Loic Le Meur, who unfollowed everyone in his Twitter account, and slowly started adding people back.
It immediately caught my attention, and struck a cord with me, it’s the equivalent of hitting the refresh button. It makes twitter interesting again, by starting fresh and slowly focusing on adding a selected few of users with very relevant and valuable updates.
We created a small script that would unfollow all of your friends and You can use the script from within this page:
We promise you not to store your details (username or password), but just in case you’re still paranoid, you can download the script from here, edit your account information and run it yourself.
I personally used the script and hope it helps some of you who are in my same position. Let me know if you have any feedback.

I personally took another approach on managing twitter contacts : unfollow mercilessly.
Each time I visit my twitter home page, I remove clutter by unfollowing people that seem irrelevant for me at that moment. Of course it’s common for me to follow people again later.

huitter doesn’t have the “unfollow all” feature anymore
and twitter karma never seems to unfollow everyone, it just unfollowed about 1,000 then stopped
I had to unfollow over 8,000 people
and this script did it extremely fast!
Thank you

A very useful tool when you realize that as a music site you ought to be following music-related Tweets but don’t have time to Unfollow the five hundred plus Twits you’re already following. Thanks CloudAppers!

I followed over 1000 random people hoping that they’d follow me back. Many did, but very few of them were actually listening to my tweets. I also couldn’t enjoy twitter anymore because the tweets from the <100 people I actually wanted to follow were lost in a bunch of useless and spam tweets. Actually works, but not immediately (if you refresh your page once a minute or so you can see your following number gradually decreasing). Thanks a lot :)BTW, I had to block an account called Washingtonson to stop getting their tweets, but apart from that it unfollowed everyone.

This is a great tool! I had “gunked” up my twitter account with people I didn’t really care to follow. This is the best tool I found!

Is it possible to tell the service not to unfollow certain people? And is it possible to tell it just to unfollow who’s not following you?
February 1st, 2010 at 10:05 am
@Chris, the script doesn’t do that, it just unfollows all of the people you’re following.
But there are other services that allows you to unfollow only those who’re not following you.
Check out this: http://www.twi5.com/huitter-mutuality-bulk-unfollow-twitter-users-not-following-you/3016/
